In Scotland breastfeeding is protected by the Scotland Act 2005 under which it is an offence to prevent someone from breastfeeding their baby in a public place. The legislation allows for fines of up to £2500 for preventing public breastfeeding.

Public breastfeeding is finally legal in all 50 US states. Some countries expressly forbid women to expose their breasts in public, even to breastfeed.
